Fair:
On the tanning scale, you porcelain beauties are at the very bottom. Containing cool, milky, blue-ish/red undertones, your skin skips the sun-kissed bronze phase and goes straight to sunburn. You are also prone to redness and skin conditions such as rosacea. Tip: Keep your beauty cabinet stocked with gentle moisturizers and sunscreens with a high SPF.
Light:
You fair-skinned babes are of the more pink variety but are still on the cooler side of the color scale. Containing rosy/peach undertones, your skin flushes easily and is most compatible with cool-colored makeup. Break out the blue eye shadow!
If you're fair-skinned, sheer colors look best on you. Apply light earth tones and soft pastels, such as blue and lavender to accent your eyes.
Various shades of pink will look good on your eyes, cheeks and lips. Keep your mascara to brown or brown/black. Light, sheer lipstick adds a finishing touch. Peach is always a good choice for our fair-skinned friends, it looks natural and compliments blonde hair.
Medium/Neutral:
Talk about a happy medium. Your light beige complexions contain no traces of olive, pink or yellow tones, making the foundation search a breeze. Try L’Oréals True Match Super Blendable Compact Makeup for on-the-go coverage with a flawless finish.
Your warmer completion gives you many options for a fabulous makeover. Being "in-between" does have it's benefits. Deep matte earth tones and jewel colors such as hunter green, dark grey, beige and brown will accent your eyes. Coral and plumb colors work good to accentuate your cheekbones.
Experiment with your lip color. Your skin tone is very versatile and if you're brunette, anything from pink to red will look great on you. Top it off with lip gloss for extra staying power. Bronzing powder dusted over your forehead, nose and cheeks will give you the ultimate sun-kissed look.
Olive:
Stepping into warm territory, your skin has lovely yellow, green and light brown undertones that makes for easy tanning, sans the burn. While not as easily tarnished by the sun, your skin is often oily and prone to enlarged pores and breakouts. Tip: Foaming cleansers and oil-free moisturizers can help keep that oil and excess dirt at bay! As for makeup, stock up on neutral-colored products!
With your darker skin tone, neutral shades as well as dark purple and blue will look great on your eyes. Metallic colors also look remarkable, as long as the shades remain darker.
Highlight your cheekbones with bronzing powder, dark plum, chestnut, or terra-cotta blush. Keep the tones natural and avoid anything too light.
Lipstick shades that will bring out your lips are berry, plum, russet, or almond. Avoid "true" reds, they will clash with your skin tone.
Dark:
Dark-skinned complexions range from copper and espresso tones to dark brown and ebony. However, you are not exempt from sun damage such as hyperpigmentation, so hold on to that sunscreen. Tip: If you’re already experiencing pigmentation and dark spot issues, try Dermablends Skin Perfector Pigment Correcting Primer under your foundation.
You may need a heavier hand when applying makeup to dark skin, but you need to choose the right shades. For eye shadow, gray, brown and natural shades will compliment your eyes. Also try shimmer colors such as silver, bronze, and terra-cotta. Experiment with mascara colors such as navy and dark purple.
For blush, more pigment for darker skin is a must. Deep rose and apricot shades highlight your cheekbones beautifully. Sometimes a bronze highlighter does the trick. Stay away from anything with a strong orange base as this will not flatter your skin.
Dark lip color such as apricot, blackberry, caramel and red will compliment your lips.
Need help figuring out where you fall on the tone scale?
Check out the veins on the inside of your wrist. If your veins are more of a bluish-purple color, you are in the cool-toned category. If your veins are green, you are more warm-toned. And if your veins fall somewhere between blue and green (meaning they have both tones), you probably have a more neutral-colored complexion.
Mineral Make-Up
Many people have heard of Mineral make-up, but they don't know enough about it. Mineral make-up is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, UVA & UVB protection, anti-inflammatory, water-resistant, and covers blemishes: acne, rosacea, and post laser treatment.
Mineral makeup has many benefits compared to traditional chemical based makeup. Since mineral makeup was originally designed for women with sensitive skin in mind, they are much more gentler on the skin.
For most mineral makeup products, the majority of the ingredients (if not all) are natural. There are no parabens, talc, alcohol, or other synthetic ingredients found in chemical based makeup which can harm the skin.
Mineral makeup also generally does not contain any mineral oil or other ingredients that may block or clog the pores. Due to the ultra fine powder, it allows the skin to breathe. This makes mineral makeup much more suitable for those with acne, eczema, and rosacea.
Mineral makeup also feels very light weight when applied compared to traditional makeup. They do not crease or cake like traditional makeup does. Mineral makeup in many cases last longer then chemical makeup and is also much more water resistant.
Many women prefer the look of mineral makeup since to many, it appears more natural when applied. This is because mineral makeup mixes in with the skin's natural oils instead of forming a layer over them.
